Hawkers in Kibera are expecting to make huge profits from the sales of their commodities this January season though this month is believed to be a tough month that is hard to get enough money for spending.

In an interview on Friday with some traders at DC market in Kibera, the traders said that during the month of January many residents do not prefer buying expensive foods since most of them use their salaries to pay school fees for their children and use some to buy cheap foods.

“I am going to invest all my money in purchasing fresh and simple foods such as ripe bananas, avocado and biscuits which do not need a lot of money to buy by my customers," said Jane Murwa, a hawker in Kibera.

The hawkers said despite the bad economic times, they are hoping to sell and make profits this month to get food, rent and school fees.

“For last year, we had a tough year in business since we lacked customers throughout and we do not expect the same this year," said Jacob Kioko, a hawker.
