Small businesses in the counties have been given a platform to showcase their services as a marketing strategy.

Kenya Expo County Edition that was formed last year has kicked off a programme to visit the 47 counties and organises expo that brings together different players to showcase their wares.

A director at the County Edition Expo Dan Oketch said most of the events that bring different players together are only the Agricultural Shows of Kenya.

Oketch said the shows have been dominated by big players in the country thus locking out small businesses.

“At the ASK, the public are required to pay a fee before gaining access and huge cash for business people who want to showcase their products,” he said.

Speaking in Kisumu on Saturday where they staged the first county expo at the Kenyatta Sports Ground before heading to Kakamega next year in January, Oketch said there expo is open to the public to learn and interact.

He said real estate is a major investment that has not been tapped in Kisumu.

Oketch said real estate has the potential to lift the economic status of the county noting that it is through such expo that locals get tips on what to venture on.

“We only have two real estate agents who are showcasing, but I want to note that real estate in Kisumu is still at its lowest.

It has potential and should be explored further,” he said.

The expo has been attended by different sectors that include banking, higher learning institutions, insurance, heath and other small business entities.
