Gatundu North sub-county deputy traffic commandant Moses Mwau has today advised the bodaboda riders in Kamwangi town to form manageable groups that can be easily guided on road safety.

Speaking at Kamwangi police station on Tuesday during a brief road safety committee meeting, the deputy commandant said the police traffic department in the area was always ready to partner in the training of riders.

"We as police have been having sessions with the riders in groups to ensure that riders are aware of the legal requirements and conduct to reduce the increasing number of motorbike causing accidents," he said.

The officer reiterated that most riders lack proper training and cannot ensure their safety and that of customers.

"Non-licensed riders have killed and maimed many for lack of observance of the code and gear," he revealed.

He said that though the boda boda business has created employment for many youth they have also been misused in crime.

"Boda boda business is good although many crimes happening here have been in some way attached to the riders," he noted.

Mwau observed that the police station commanders have been having interactive sessions with the riders to streamline the business.

"We have and will continue to have interactive sessions with boda-boda riders to ensure they understand their duty on the road," he said.
