Bodaboda and taxi operators in Kijabe, Lari constituency have urged their MP Mburu Kahangara to push for the repair and renovation of the Kijabe-Gichiengo road.

According to the operators, the road that connects to Kijabe Mission hospital is in deplorable state.

Speaking to this writer on Thursday, the operators indicated that the road has many potholes and ditches which they claim have impacted negatively on their businesses.

The bodaboda operators say that their bikes and vehicles consume a lot of fuel as a result of the many potholes.

According to the operators, the repair of the road had started in July last year but stopped.

“The government should quickly come to our aid and start renovations on the Kijabe-Gichiengo road which is in deplorable condition and is costing our business,” said Jonah Ndung’u, a taxi operator.

Mr Ndung’u said that poor roads have led to cases of pregnant women delivering in taxis and matatu’s.

“We experience so many cases where pregnant women deliver in our vehicles because of the impact of poor roads that makes the vehicles to maneuver the roads,” he said.

The operators said that if the road is tarmacked it will save business people and residents agony they are experiencing.

Speaking at Lari town during the tour of the constituency on Wednesday, area MP Mburu Kahangara announced that the repair of the road will start next week.

Kahangara said that Sh24 million had been set aside for the tarmacking of the road.

He noted that renovation of the road had been started in July 2015 but was stopped as a result of heavy rains that were being experienced at the time.

The MP said that the road will be expanded and will pass through Kijabe Girls Secondary school and also connect with the Nairobi-Mai Mahiu highway.
