Transport in Thika-Garissa road in Ngoliba area was distracted on Monday for six hours after more than 100 trucks blocked the road at the border of Machakos and Thika county causing a heavy traffic snarl up.

The drivers were complaining of high taxing by the county government of Machakos where they wanted them reduced.

Speaking to Kenya Trucks Association Daniel Kimani, the taxes had been raised from Sh1300 to Sh3000 without the knowledge of concerned stakeholders.

Kimani said that they count losses each day as they are forced to part with Sh200-Sh500 on several checkpoints on the road.

The secretary of the association Zacharias Murage said that the county government should consider lowering the taxes as it was crippling many businesses in the county.

"It's unfair that the taxes have been increased, without us being involved," said Murage.

Many vehicles had to find other ways to reach their destination.

However, the deputy county commissioner of Yatta sub-county Allan Macharia was able to convince them to clear the way and rage congestion of vehicles.
