The Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) Deputy Secretary General Hesbond Otieno has urged the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to fast track the process of promoting teachers.
Speaking on Wednesday during the Wareng Knut branch elections, Otieno said there were some teachers who had stayed in one job group since they were employed as P1 teachers.
"It's sad that there are some teachers who have never been promoted despite working for over 30 years, only remaining in P1 job group thus killing their morale," he said.
He said that every teacher has a right to be promoted and the government through TSC should appraise teachers through promotions.
"We not only want TSC do promote teachers but also increase their salaries for them to live comfortable lives like other civil servants. This will motivate them to produce good results," he said.
He said that Knut will push the government of the day to ensure that all teachers are promoted on merit.
