Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (Kuppet) Uasin Gishu County Secretary General Elijah Maiyo said most schools in the county don't perform well because they don't have enough teachers.

"It's sad that a school with a population of over 400 students has only four TSC teachers, while others are employed by the board. How do you expect such a school to compete with other schools with many teachers?" he posed.

He said Uasin Gishu is among the leading counties with scarcity of teachers, with one teacher teaching a class of 50 students in most schools.

"We have a scarcity of 1,061 teachers that translates to 40 per cent teachers shortage in secondary schools alone," he said.

He urged TSC to deploy more teachers to secondary schools to ensure quality education.
