Police at Chepilat on Monday nabbed two people suspected to be leading a gang that has allegedly been giving the area residents sleepless nights.

Chepilat is at the boarder of Nyamira and Bomet counties.

The two had gone hiding after police issued warrants of arrest against them after they failed to appear at Chepilat police post to record a statement on their alleged criminal activities.

According to Sergeant Peter Maloba of Chepilat police post, the two were arrested after they were cornered by a group of angry residents who wanted to lynch them before police came to their rescue.

“The two failed to record a statement with us after their were linked with several crimes in the region. We managed to rescue them from an angry mob who had corned them. We have no doubt that they are founder of the group calling itself Taliban but we will find the truth soon,” he said.

Maloba said the two were likely to spend two days in police cells to aid in investigations and urged residents who had information linking them to criminal activities to work with the police.

“We will question them so that we know the whereabouts of their accomplices before arraigning them in court. It will also be important if the residents with additional information about the two and other suspects work with us to combat criminal related activities in this region,” he added.

The resident lead by Mr Brighton Nyamweya could not hide their happiness as they termed the two as ‘perilous’ to the community.

“We are extremely happy that they are now with the police. We have information linking them with the group and they are certainly perilous fellows,” he said.
