The Joint HIV/Aids Programme Review (JAPR) and Kenya National Aids Strategic Slan (KNASP) sensitisation programme commenced on Wednesday with recommendations on the progress of 2015-16 year expected to be discussed.

The two-day workshop held at the Thika Cravers Hotel has drawn about 100 participants from the old larger Juja Constituency which includes Juja, Ruiru and Thika.

"In the last financial year, the budget allocation was Sh104 million but only 40 million was approved for funding," Michael Kyalo the Regional field officer said that approved groups will receive funds as from 2016.

The groups that have so far been funded by the Kiambu County Aids Control Committee (KCACC) receiving Sh350,000 each, include; Endwa Self-Help Group that is composed of people living with Aids, Oil of Joy Group funded through VCT service and St Teresa Women Group.

Another beneficially of the funds that were approved by the Thika Sub-County Technical Committee (T.T.C) was Thika Youth Information Centre which got the highest allocation totaling to Sh1.75 million.

During the opening of the workshop, the participants were put to task on how to come with better ways to reduce the spread of HIV/Aids and are expected at the end of the two-day workshop to have made remarkable progress.

The forum ends on Thursday, with officials from the National Aids Control Council and Kiambu county governor’s wife expected to address the event.
