Two people among them a driver died on Tuesday evening in a road accident involving a saloon car and a Kenya Mpya bus.

A pedestrian who was hit died on the spot along the Garissa road in Makongeni area in Thika sub-county.

According to an eyewitness who is also a PSV driver along the route, Samuel Mwangi, the saloon car which had five people on board, was heading towards Makongeni at a high speed when it tried to overtake a police patrol vehicle.

Mwangi says the car collided into the oncoming bus that was also speeding towards Thika Town from Makongeni where both drivers lost control and overturned.

"The bus only had the driver and his crew on board after all passengers alighted at Makongeni Stage," said Mwangi.

Speaking to the press at the scene of the accident, Thika Traffic Base Commander William Uhuru said that there were seven casualties; three from the bus, (a driver and two conductors) while the saloon car had five passengers among them the deceased driver.

The injured were rushed to Thika Level 5 Hospital.
