Two matatus were on Friday removed from a matatu Sacco in Kikuyu for increased traffic offences. Speaking at a matatu sacco meeting at the Kikuyu Bus terminus, the Sacco chairman Mr. Julius Chege said that the 2 have been breaking traffic rules for a long time which forced the management to remove them.
He said that they had been arrested more that 12 times with the same mistakes the main one being operating with expired licences. He further said that the management was strict on traffic rules and that regular inspections had helped to identify the operators.
The chairman also said that few individuals were putting the management in the police radar and that this was something that they had to deal with for the sake of their reputation. He affirmed that the management will always conduct regular inspections and that regular traffic offenders will also be removed to create room for those who are serious.
"Regular traffic offenders now are in the risk of being removed. This is just the beginning and it is going to continue. The management will not condone the few characters who bring shame to our Sacco," said Chege.
Chege also revealed that those who will fill the space will also be properly vetted before joining the Sacco. He therefore urged matatu operators to obey the traffic rules. He revealed that the use of expired licenses, carrying excess passengers and over speeding due to interfering with the speed governors were the most common offences.
