Two people were on Monday sentenced to four years in jail by a Nakuru court over burglary and theft of assorted shop goods.

Samuel Mburu, 26, and Charles Mwangi, 24, were sentenced by Senior Principle Magistrate Maroro Nyakundi after they pleaded guilty.

They were accused of shop breaking and stealing assorted goods namely; 24 biro pens, 2 packets of cigarettes, washing soaps, steel wool, salt and 1 kg of cooking oil all valued at Sh1,200 on the night of December 22, 2015 at Kabazi in Subukia sub county.

According to the prosecution, the complainant reported to Kirigero police station that his shop was broken into and property stolen.

The two were spotted selling pens and rubbers to children and the police were alerted.

Upon their arrest, they admitted to breaking and stealing from the shop, and they were taken to Kirigero police station and charged.

In their mitigation, they said that they wanted to use the goods in their homes and they prayed that the court puts them on probation.

Magistrate Nyakundi also said that they have 14 days to appeal the sentence.

The two also face another charge of livestock theft after they were accused of stealing a sheep valued at Sh6,000, property of one James Njuguna and slaughtered it in their house on the December 18, 2015.

They denied the charges and the case will be heard on January 18, 2016.
