Under fire Kisii County deputy governor Joash Maangi has defended his position of working closely with President Uhuru Kenyatta’s government, throwing scathing attacks at his critics by labeling them myopic in contemporary politics.
Maangi who is also ODM Kisii County Organising Secretary is facing a rebellion from a section of party members led by the Kisii ODM Youth League leaders after leading a delegation from Kisii and Nyamira counties to Deputy President William Ruto’s Sugoi home last week.
Maangi however said the county leaders discussed critical development issues during the meeting with the DP.
Friday, Maangi had difficulties in addressing mourners in front of his party leader Raila Odinga and was forced to cut short his speech following calls from impatient youth.
On Saturday at his Bomachoge backyard the deputy governor slammed his critics, labeling them as myopic in contemporary politics.
“I have nothing to regret about by working with the government of the day. I am doing it for the sake of my community and it’s always a good thing to work with the government of the day. It doesn’t mean that when you are working with people from different parties you’re supporting them. Those believing in that paradigm are myopic and should wake up to face the reality,” he said.
He alleged that the region was being ignored by the national government due to its close ties with the opposition and said it was proper for the leaders to work with government to fix social economic problems affecting the region before 2017 polls.
“People only think of 2017 yet we have more than a year to polls. Our region is being segregated by the government and that is why we extended a hand to Deputy President to discuss social economic issues affecting us. I am glad that he agreed to initiate a number of road projects in both Nyamira and Kisii counties,” he added.
He urged area political leaders to be tolerant with each other and work for the benefit of the entire society.
