Kisumu County Students Union has rolled out a campaign seeking to sensitise high school and university students on the need to get identification cards and register as voters in their respective constituencies.

The union through their Secretary General Fred Makajos said there was need to reach out to students in learning institutions.

Makajos said as a union they have visited Maseno University, Great Lakes University of Kenya and Kenya Medical Training College since the year started to sensitise the students on the need to take the important documents.

Some of the schools they have visited include Chulaimbo which is located along Kisumu-Busia Road.

“This is a forgotten lot and since we are peers, they will better listen to us than other leaders, that is why we are targeting them,” said Makajos on Monday.

Apart from students, the union is also trying to reach out to the locals in the grassroots level for the same initiative.

“As other politicians are using road shows in the voter registration drive, as students we will also go deep in villages so that we target the aged who cannot be found along the roads,” said Makajos.

He however stated that logistical problems were hampering the exercise.
