Bro Francis Kerongo, the Assistant Dean of students, said on Saturday that safety of the students had been taken care of by the police and that they should treat them as friends.

Bro Francis confirmed that the University held a free and fair students' elections on Friday but unscrupulous individuals disrupted peace after the elections.

"We had a free, fair, democratic and peaceful election. We regret that a few hooligans have caused some tension affecting the community and our peaceful university," he said.

On Friday night, angry students were involved in vandalism of private property and caused mayhem in the university and surrounding community.

Security personnel were deployed to calm the situation but a few terrified students had to flee their rooms for safety.

"We have taken measures to ensure that security is taken care of. Let comrades stay calm and respect each other. Any suspicious situation should be reported to the security personnel found," he added.
