Governor Kinuthia Mbugua has called on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission to take advantage of the ongoing county government's outreach programme to register voters in the county.

Speaking on the second day of the programme in Kuresoi South constituency on Thursday, Mbugua said the outreach programme was a ripe platform for the IEBC to register voters due to the high turn out at the forums.

He said IEBC should pitch tent in all the centers the county government officers will visit during the two-week exercise.

The electoral body is expected to start the voter registration exercise on February 15 to March 15.

“We have started the outreach programme and we have seen a huge number of residents turn out to be served and this is an opportunity I want the IEBC to utilise and come here and register these people,” said Mbugua.

He added, “Apart from just being served by county government officials, I think the IEBC should also be serving them because many of them may never get the opportunity and time to visit registration centers,”

He called on residents of Kuresoi South to take the voter registration exercise seriously and register in their numbers in readiness for next year's polls.
