Uasin Gishu County Assembly Speaker Isaac Terer has urged Members of the County Assembly to use their recess period to address problems facing their electorate.

Speaking in his office on Tuesday, Terer said it is sad that there are some MCAs who have never held meetings with their electorate since they were elected into office.

"Wananchi on the ground need to be conversant with their leaders so that they can tell them their problems. That is why we went on recess for two months," he said.

The speaker said recess is not a time to relax but for the ward reps to attend to issues affecting their people.

"It s time for them to do an oversight of the projects they are undertaking in their respective wards and also know if the funds are being used well,"he said.

Terer said; "One day I visited a certain ward and when the MCA was introduced no one knew him," he said.

He added it is the mandate of MCAs to go on the ground and serve their electorate since they were voted into office to represent them.

The speaker also urged the public to put their leaders to account on every project they initiate since it is their money and they have the right to ask what they have done with it.

"This will enhance transparency and curb corruption since they will have to explain how the funds were spend," he said.
