Commission of University Education has slapped Kisii University yet with another blow after revoking five doctorates degrees and two masters that were conferred in the 2014 graduation.

This comes days after the commission also ordered closure of 10 campuses affiliated to the institution over what it termed as substandard services delivery.

In a statement issued by CUE chairman Prof Henry Theuri on Thursday, the affected students had been admitted in the institution without due procedures raising fundamental questions about the credibility of Kisii University.

“Students admission were highly irregular based on postgraduate credit transfer policy that is not provided by Kisii University statutes or the university standards and guidelines,” read the statement.

However, the decision has not been received well by the student body which accused the commission of being used by other rival institutions to bring it down using unfair means.

“We are shocked as students with that decision. It’s now clear that the institution is been targeted by the commission due to pressure from other rival institutions across the country. This is defamation of the institution’s quality and as students, we demand an explanation from the commission,” said chairman Jeff Mitei.

He said the commission lacked credibility since it also carried an inspection and failed to table their findings before the institution for an action.

“We all want quality education and that is what our school is doing. The commission has acted in bad faith because on closure of 10 campuses, they never tabled the report after inspection,” he said.
