Egerton University students have been urged to observe calm and restraint even as they hold elections to elect their new representatives.
Outgoing Vice Chancellor Prof James Tuitoek on Thursday challenged the students from university's main campus and its other two constituent colleges to behave maturely and remain peaceful as they elect their leaders.
"Election is a democratic process that ought to be unifying. May all students remain peaceful and act their age even as they undertake this noble exercise," he said.
His sentiments were echoed by dean of students Nakuru town campus Absalom Makinda who challenged the students to remain true to the spirit of intellectualism.
He added that the University had always been a trend setter to other universities in conducting peaceful elections and the students should always uphold that.
Njoro, Nakuru town and Nairobi City campuses are holding student elections today.
Maseno, Moi and Jaramogi Oginga Odinga universities have had to send their students home after students elections ended in disarray.
