Kiambu County Youth and Sports Affairs Executive Machel Waikenda has asked youths in the county to keep off drug and substance abuse.
Speaking in Kiambu town on Saturday, Waikenda also told youths to shun people or activities that may influence them to abuse drugs.
The CeC noted that some youths were being influenced to drug abuse and social evils by the company and association they keep.
Waikenda said that drug abuse still remains a challenge among the youth but said that the Kiambu government has taken decisive steps to stop the menace.
He said that county has stated various programmes aimed at sensitising young people against drug abuse.
“The Kiambu government under the Youth department is carrying out various programmes including sports and talent to keep young people away from drugs,” he said.
Waikenda also said that the county is working with other agencies to rehabilitate drug addicts.
The Youth CeC called for collaboration among government agencies in the fight against drug abuse. He said that securing youths from drug abuse will help in realisation of development.
The CeC asked Kiambu youths to apply for government funds and start business ventures instead of wasting time and money in drugs.
“The county government has set aside enough development funds aimed at empowering young people and they must apply for them and be able to contribute to development,” he said.
Waikenda said that Kiambu government is focused on empowering youths, women and persons living with disabilities for socio-economic development.
