Kiambu County Youth and Sports Executive Machel Waikenda has cautioned official’s in-charge of the Uwezo and Biashara funds in the county against demanding bribes from applicants.

The executive said that officials who demand bribes from applicants will be dealt with accordingly.

Waikenda warned that the government will not hesitate to take action against officials who will be found to be soliciting for bribes from applicants of the Uwezo and Biashara Funds.

Speaking to journalists at Kiambu town on Saturday, Waikenda also asked marginalised groups seeking government funds to immediately report any official or person demanding for bribes.

“The county government will not hesitate to take legal action against any person or officer who will be found to be soliciting for bribes from applicants seeking government funds and tenders,” warned Waikenda.

The executive said that though no such case has been reported it is important for applicants to know that they are not required to pay for any service fee while applying for the funds.

Waikenda said the county government has put in place measures to ensure transparency in disbursement of Uwezo and Biashara Funds.

He said that every applicant seeking the funds has an equal opportunity of getting the money.

Waikenda added that the government will continue to sensitize the youths, women and disabled persons on the process to follow in applying for the funds.

Speaking during a Youth conference at the Kiambu headquarters on Friday last week, Kiambu governor urged marginalized groups to apply for the funds.

Kabogo raised concerns over the low number of applicants noting that only 17 per cent of marginalized groups in the county applied for the funds in the 2014-2015 Financial Year.
