Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi has asked the county government to prioritise roads and infrastructure development.
According to Wamatangi, focusing more on proper road infrastructure will open up the county to trade and business.
Addressing members of the public at Ngecha shopping center in Tigoni, Limuru sub county on Thursday, Wamatangi said that with good infrastructure there will be smooth movement of people and goods.
The senator observed that successful economies base their priority on infrastructure development.
He observed that roads in Kiambu are not up to the required standards and urged the county to rehabilitate them.
“For Kiambu County to register high economic development and open up business with neighbouring counties, there must be good roads and other infrastructure,” he said.
The Kiambu senator said that the county has rich resources that can be exploited if there are good roads.
He noted that the county puts less focus on roads infrastructure, a move he said has led to low development and poverty.
“Kiambu people can only move out of poverty if there is proper development of infrastructure,” added Wamatangi.
Wamatangi said that the senate is pushing form resource allocation to counties to ensure that there is proper development especially on infrastructure.
He asked county governments to develop proper plans on infrastructure development to spur economic growth.
