Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi has lauded Kericho residents for electing Jubilee Party candidate Aaron Cheruiyot as their senator in the by-election conducted by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on Monday.
Speaking on Citizen TV Breakfast show on Tuesday morning, Wamatangi said that Jubilee Party win in the Kericho by-election shows that Kenyans have faith in the Jubilee government
He said that Jubilee is the party that will unite Kenyans adding that those opposing the merger of parties under the Jubilee umbrella do not have Kenyan's interest at heart.
“We want to assure Kenyans that Jubilee Party is the only outfit that will unite the country,” he said.
Wamatangi asked politicians allied to Jubilee to popularise the party at grass root levels ahead of the 2017 general elections.
The Kiambu senator also exuded confidence that the Jubilee government will retain power in 2017.
Mr Cheruioyot garnered 106,932 votes, beating his closest competitor Kanu’s Paul sang who got 55,552 votes in the hotly contested senatorial by-election.
The senator said Jubilee's win in Kericho confirms that Deputy President William Ruto still holds the grip of the Rift valley region.
There have been fears that the region is rebelling against DP Ruto following his fall-out with Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto.
DP Ruto led an intensive vote hunt for the JAP candidate in Kericho prior to yesterday’s election urging residents to vote for the Jubilee aspirant.
A section of politicians from the region had accused the Jubilee government of allegedly abandoning the area despite them voting massively for President Uhuru Kenyatta and DP Ruto in the 2013 general elections.
