Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi wants opposition leaders to stop politicising the ongoing voter registration exercise.
Speaking in Ruiru on Tuesday, Wamatangi accused opposition leaders of trying to politicise the process.
He said that claims by opposition leaders that voter registration kits were distributed indiscriminately are not true.
The senator warned that politicising the voter registration process might affect the whole process.
“Opposition leaders should stop making politics out of the voter registration and instead allow the process to flow as planned,” he said.
Wamatangi asked the leaders to present their issues to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission instead of complaining in public.
The senator said that the electoral commission is credible and will carry out a transparent voter registration exercise.
A section of opposition leaders led by Raila Odinga had accused IEBC of indiscriminately allocating voter registration kits.
The leaders alleged that the IEBC had allocated more voter kits to Jubilee strongholds and fewer kits to opposition perceived strongholds.
On Tuesday, the IEBC met opposition leaders and assured them that their concerns will be looked at.
The IEBC through its chairman Isaack Hassan said voter registration kits were allocated basing on location size and population.
The countrywide one month voter registration exercise kicked off on Monday and will end on 15 March with the electoral commission targeting to register eight million new voters in readiness for 2017 polls.
