Lakeview Ward representative Simon Wanyoike Wanango has backed the Punguza Mzigo campaign seeking to scrap all seats for nominated Members of County Assembly.

Speaking during an interview with Inooro TV on Wednesday, the MCA said nominated MCAs play no role in the counties.

“I am in full support of scrapping off seats for nominated MCAs because they do absolutely nothing. Theirs is only sitting down and they get paid for that,” he said.

He also said they do not feel obligated as they were not elected by anybody, thus they have got little or no value addition to the county.

“A person like me was elected by the people of Lakeview and they expect to see results. But for them, they do not have to feel obligated because nobody elects them and they are paid for nothing,” he said.

Wanango further supported the call to have the Senate scrapped saying its roles can be executed by the counties in part, while the rest is done by the national assembly.

“Roles about the Senate and those performed by governors and MCAs are repetitive that is why it should be scrapped and its work done by National Assembly and the county assemblies,” he said.

He also said deputy governors should be made in-charge of a particular ministry in the county so that they stop saying that they do not have any roles to play in the county.

Giving them a ministry to manage will also reduce the country’s wage bill according to the Lakeview MCA.
