Residents of Nakuru West have raised the alarm over cholera outbreak in the area following an acute water shortage.

The residents said they have gone for over four days without water in their taps, forcing them to resort to buying the precious commodity from hawkers and boreholes whose safety they greatly question.

"We fear that with this current predicament, there could be an outbreak of waterborne diseases because the safety of the water we are drinking is zilch," noted Charles Akendo from Rhonda.

His sentiments were echoed by Peris Njeri Muriuki who added that some of the borehole water they has a foul smell.

"We are not safe. Cholera could be lurking if we are not careful. We want clean water before waterborne diseases strike," she added.

The residents called on the Nakuru Water and Sanitation Services Company to expeditiously supply water before the situation degenerates into a crisis.

Efforts to reach Nawassco officials bore no fruits as their phones were off.

The most affected areas include Shabab, Rhonda, Kaptembwa and Pondamali estates.
