Nyamira county assembly public accounts committee chair has yet again hit back on a section of county officials who have been raising issues about the methodologies in fighting corruption.

A section of workers in the executive wing thorough the county secretary Erick Onchana have for some time accused the powerful watchdog committee of settling scores using the committee’s sessions on individuals perceived to be eying MCAs seats in 2017.

However, Mr Ezra Mochiemo on Wednesday dismissed the claims in his office and said the committee would not relent in fighting the war against graft.

“We are guided by integrity and objectivity when summoning people to answer issues regarding graft. We do not go for specific people because we are guided by evidence at hand. Those claims are malicious and ill-motivated to discredit our work,” Mochiemo said.

He said his committee has written to the executive wing to get more details on the complaints and investigate them afresh to vindicate the committee.

“This is a watchdog committee and it has a number of members. I have written to the executive to demand more details on the people complaining so that as chair, I get the specifics and interrogate it to vindicate my able committee,” he said.

The Magombo MCA warned that the committee will not be intimidated in executing its mandate of keeping county government departments on watch.

“I want to reiterate that the allegations cannot intimidate us at all. We remain united as a committee and we summon people regardless of who they are or their political ambitions. It’s our mandate,” he added.
