According to emergency response team leader Moses Maina, lack of modern equipment posed a negative impact on accessing fire scenes but expressed satisfaction that all was well after the county government acquired two new fire engines.

Speaking during the handing over ceremony of the two engines at the county headquarters presided over by governor Kinuthia Mbugua and his deputy Joseph Ruto on Tuesday, Maina said that the department had been subjected to negative publicity over the recent years because they lacked the necessary equipment to fight fire.

"We thank our county government for hearing the plight the people and offering us with modern equipment, we are now ready to serve them fully," said Maina.

He further called on informal settlement landlords not to squeeze their structures, saying that it hinders access to emergency scenes.

"It becomes very tricky when we arrive at the scene on time but watch helplessly because of lack of a way due to congestion and poor road networks," he added.

The county government of Nakuru has acquired two fully equipped fire engines to serve all the seven sub counties, with another two expected to be purchased in the subsequent financial years.
