Uasin Gishu government is determined to ensure that its residents get enough water as it seeks to reduce the current deficit.
Speaking in his office on Thursday, Deputy Governor Daniel Chemno said the government will expand the Eldoret Water and Sewerage Company to produce more water and reduce the deficit as well as provide clean water in Eldoret town and its outskirts.
"We will expand the Eldowas water production by designing and constructing two water treatment plants at Elgarini and Kipkaren River which will be funded by the World Bank to the tune of Sh358 million and Sh700 million respectively," he said.
He said that after the completion of the project, which is in its pilot stage, it will give an additional 7,000 cubic meters per day which will help bridge the gap of daily water deficit of 13,000 cubic meters within Eldoret town and its surroundings.
"As the Uasin Gishu county government, we are determine to ensure that we have enough clean water which will drastically reduce the cases of waterborne diseases by half in the county," he added.
