Joining high school is no mean feat for a student from bush primary school in any interior of Nakuru County.
It does not matters which school he/she joins since the same burden is eased.
Here are some of the primary school practices that one forgets:
1.Walking barefoot
Shoes are not part of most public schools uniform. Putting on shoes is a privilege or a favour from a parent. It therefore means that joining secondary school to find leather shoes as a compulsory package is a special attention not to mention the socks accompanied!
2. Unending luggage and baggage
Ever heard of what pupils carry to school? A water jerrycan, a paper bag of manure, a branch of Sodom apple and did I mention a bag of books and a jembe or a panga! Yes, all these must be carried and any failure explains the next point!
3. Crazy punishments
Its that moment when one is told to take the posture of a frog for 30 minutes. Also, you're assigned to 'call rain' which means kneeling as you raise your hands up. The punishments that make you sweat and forget anything wrong you've ever done. Just a few minutes and you'll plead for mercy and the swear to never repeat a mistake.
Such practices are alien to high schools and before even exploring into further details of high school dances, relationships and new modes of study, these make pupils from bush primary school enjoy becoming students!
