Either everyone I know is broke or they all lied about how hard this past year has been on them.

If you are like me, you have probably heard hakuna pesa, uncountable times from family, friends and strangers too.

This got me wondering; Where does money go to?' It is true that at times the money in circulation to the general public can be withheld by the government hence creating a shortage of it.

This is done so as to curb inflation; that mysterious creature who with a wheelbarrow full of cash, can only buy a few household goods in Mugabe land.

Look at it this way, if a Wells Fargo car loaded with millions of shillings was to crash on Kenyatta Avenue, dream on, Vegans would have an all you can pick buffet.

It may seem like a blessing but in reality it is a curse. This is so because we would find ourselves buying a kilo of unga for Sh500! The general assumption would be that everybody got a share.

Back to inflation, if the money in circulation was increased, then an increase in commodity prices would be inevitable. And before you know it, teachers and everybody else would be on the streets crying haki yetu!.

This is the reason why occasionally, government jobs, tenders and contracts become scarce so as to regulate the amount of money available to the public.

However, this is not to say the government is responsible for our being broke and jobless. That's just how the economy works.

The year is however still fresh hence the more reason to resolve that the infamous words hakuna pesa becomes last year's thing.

All the best to all the Vegan hustlers.
