Although she has not publicly made the declaration, there is no doubt that Nakuru County Assembly speaker Susan Kihika will be vying for Nakuru County Senator.

Whenever the question crops up, she always manages to cleverly evade the question by claiming that currently she’s busy with her assembly duties.

Her activities towards the end of last year are a prove that she wants to go for an elective post and its evident she won’t be making a bid to represent Bahati people in parliament as she did in 2013. She has set her eyes on a bigger prize.

So far, Susan is the frontrunner and she has a loyal army of followers who are daily singing her praises. The team referred to as “TeamMama” is daily singing her praises and defending her on social media which has caused some of her detractors to call her “WhatsApp Senator” much to the chagrin of her near sycophantic supporters.

Luckily for her, no one else seems seriously interested in gunning for the senatorial seat. The incumbent Senator James Mungai is said to be eyeing the gubernatorial seat and the other contender Madaraka Mwithaga seems to have developed cold feet.

It is not clear if any of the three nominated senators from Nakuru County will be going for the seat. None of them is being touted as largely interested in going for senator but are rather choosing to vie as MPs.

Hon. Susan is also said to enjoy the patronage of powerful and moneyed power brokers who are ready to go with her all the way. Additionally, she is seen as a favourite of the Jubilee top leadership and anyone wishing to run against her will have a herculean task.

With all these put into consideration, Hon. Susan Kihika might be the second senator of the Nakuru County.
