A 32-year-old woman was on Monday arraigned before a Mombasa Court to answer to charges of killing her husband.
Pauline Mukiri is accused of chopping off her husband’s private parts, which led to his death.
The prosecution told the court that the accused killed her husband, Alloys Matata, on February 27, 2016.
Investigating Officer Samuel Kinuthia filed an application asking for more time to complete investigations.
Kinuthia in his application also asked the court to have the accused detained at Bamburi Police Station as police finalise investigations.
“I request this court to grant me more time because I need to gather enough evidence to enable me prefer the charge against the accused,” he said.
During the trial, Ms Mukiri pleaded with Senior Resident Magistrate Anastasia Ndungu to be taken to hospital for treatment, saying she was feeling unwell.
Magistrate Ndungu in her ruling granted the police their request and ordered that the accused be remanded for 14 days pending the next hearing.
The magistrate also ordered the police to ensure that the accused is taken to hospital for a medical check-up.
Ms Mukiri had accused her husband of being with another woman after she found them together at a local bar.
When the two went home, they engaged into a physical fight that led to Ms Mukiri stabbing her husband, whose body was found lying in a pool of blood in the house.
The husband, Mr Matata, a died while receiving treatment at Yeshua Medical Centre in Bamburi.
The case will be mentioned on March 14, 2016.
