A middle-aged woman was found murdered at Umoja One estate in Bahati constituency on Monday morning in Nakuru North district.
The naked and mutilated body of the mother of one who is said to have a history of mental illness was discovered by passers-by early in the morning before police were informed.
Area residents said the woman was last seen on Sunday afternoon.
“I knew the woman as a humble mother, and I recognized her immediately when I was heading to my workstation. I suspected she was raped,” Peter Gikuru said.
Her clothes were found a few metres from where her body lay in a pool of blood.
Her husband Joseph Mbugua said that his wife left home on Sunday 7am but by sunset she had not returned.
“Sometimes she forgets herself because she has mental problems. We started looking for her once I realized she was missing,” said Mbugua.
He said that he tried to look for her but could not trace her anywhere including a nearby chang’aa den where she was reportedly seen before noon.
He said that although her wife does not take alcohol, she regularly visits the chang’aa den to mingle with people.
Officers from Lanet police station arrived at the scene and took the body to Nakuru County Government Mortuary as investigations continue.
Area chief Francis Kariuki confirmed the incident.
