Kisii County Women Representative Mary Otara now wants the government to sack principals who are going against the gazetted fee policy by the ministry of education.
“It’s sometimes impunity for professionals to dismiss implementation of a report that was done by a group of experts. There is nothing wrong adhering to the new structures because those who sat down factored everything before they came with the recommendations,” she said.
Mrs Otara said the principals had no option other that implementing the fee structure for the sake of offloading poor Kenyan parents who were struggling to raise school fees failure to which they quit or get sacked.
“If they think it’s impossible, then they have a room to quit or the government takes an action against them. We have many who are willing to be promoted. The new fee guidelines are ideal for any institution,” she added.
Under the guidelines, released by the government in March last year, parents are supposed to pay Sh53,554 for boarding school, Sh9,374 for day schools and Sh37,210 for special need schools, while the government provides a subsidy of Sh12,870.
