Workers at the Mombasa Port have raised concerns over the closure of Container Freight Stations (CFS) by the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) on grounds of engaging in corrupt deals that deny the tax man billions of shillings.

Speaking to this writer on Friday, employees of Autoport Freight Terminal and Port Side Freight Terminal said they have been left frustrated as they no longer have a stable source of income.

According to workers at the facility, life has been very unforgiving as most of them have now resorted to doing odd jobs in a bid to make ends meet.

John Epili, an employee at Auto Port Freight Terminal said life has been tough since operations ceased at the facility one month ago.

“I have been forced to do odd jobs like selling fruits in my quest to make ends meet, as I cannot just sit down and mourn,” he said.

James Mogere, said that he is not sure of when the issue will be solved.

“I am now a bodaboda operator because this is the only avenue I have been left with,” he said.

“KRA should not joke with our lives. Our sources of livelihood are now at stake as a result of people who do not seem to be concerned with our lives,” said Josephine Kamande.
