The contractors rehabilitating the Yatta canal have been urged to appoint other contract companies to help complete the project by June 2016.

Speaking during a site visit, engineer Nicholas Muthui stated that the project was dragging so much opposed to the contract agreement.

"The kilometres that have been worked on in the two divisions include, the first only 3KM are complete with cemented wall and 6KM on the canal floor out of 32KM in total," said Muthui.

Muthui further stated in the two divisions 7 teams are working every day which if continued at the same pace won't see the work completed in next 3 months.

"In the first division that is 32Km and has 7 teams working on the site but if the same continues to June then more than 10KM will remain unrehabilitated," he added.

The canal engineer has therefore called upon the contractor to involve other contractors to work at list 10-15KM.

"Our main aim is to see the Yatta canal rehabilitation complete and serving the people better than even before," he said.

The Yatta canal rehabilitation was launched on October 2015 and is set to be complete by June 2016.
