Yatta sub-county OCPD Edward Kipsang Changach has decried increase in suicide cases in the sub-county.

The officer said that so far 26 cases of suicide cases have been reported to his office since mid last year.

He warned residents that attempted suicide is a crime punishable by law and instead of contemplating suicide they should seek guidance and counselling from experts.

Changach said this in his office on Saturday as he confirmed an incident where a 42-year-old man committed suicide in Mamba area Ndalani location.

The man who was identified as Bernard Mulwa Kivuva was found dead in his house on Saturday afternoon where he allegedly hanged himself.

Changach said that according to the deceased neighbours, he lived alone in his home as he had separated with his wife long ago.

"The case was reported by his neighbours who found him dead in his house," said Changach.

He said that the motive behind the suicide has not been established since the man did not leave a suicide note behind but the police are conducting investigations.

The body of the man was taken to Matuu Median hospital mortuary.
