Hundreds of vulnerable young women in Bahati constituency are set to benefit from a mentorship programme at Bahati Stitching plant which targets youth with vocational skills in dressmaking and textile technology.
Speaking to the media after a tour of the plant on Saturday, the programme`s coordinator Donatus Thairu said the 12-month programme seeks to equip the beneficiaries with advanced knowledge in entrepreneurship and market research free of charge, while they earn a monthly salary.
‘There are many young women in the country who lack job opportunities despite having undergone training in various vocational institutions. This is why we have come up with this project to help mentor them on how they can set up their enterprises to ensure success and sustainable growth in the businesses,’ Thairu stated.
The coordinator also added that diligent beneficiaries in the programme will earn themselves permanent jobs at the multibillion shillings textile farm.
"We want the youth to find something that brings them income rather than stay idle and waste their acquired skills in unnecessary things. The program will provide the beneficiaries with opportunity to raise their own income in order to improve their living standards," Thairu further stated.
Thairu also called on the county government led by Governor Kinuthia Mbugua to help support the program among other programs in the county which are geared towards improving the living standards of residents of the region.
