Deputy President William Ruto’s political fortunes will increase if he decamps the ruling Jubilee coalition for Cord.
Led by Nominated Senator Janet Ongera on Sunday at Kisii Pentecostal Church, a section of Kisii politicians said Ruto’s chances on becoming President will be boosted if he supports opposition chief Raila Odinga.
They said Ruto’s continued stay in Jubilee will dwindle his political fortunes and hamper his chances of clinching the country's top job.
“I have worked with him before and I admit he’s a charismatic politician who has unrelenting ambitions, but the case changes when it comes to presidency. His political allies are on record for not supporting candidates from other regions and that will be his undoing in 2022,” Ongera said.
Kisii County Assembly majority whip Henry Moracha challenged the DP to withdraw Jubilee’s support soonest to link up with his former friends if he wants to be President.
“I think the DP knows his chances are minimal to clinch presidency. His continued onslaught to opposition makes him even lose ground. It's time he decamps Jubilee for Cord because people still love him. We see him being betrayed in 2022 by his current friends so it’s important he joins our camp,” he said.
Kiogoro MCA Samuel Apoko said Odinga is on record for being a selfless politician by supporting people outside his community and said he was likely to support Ruto in 2022 if the DP backs him in 2017.
“It doesn’t matter whether Jakom (Odinga) wins in 2017 but if the DP supports him, then Odinga is likely to return the favor. He needs Raila’s supporters in 2022 because his friends have a political history that I don’t even have to say,” he said.
