Nyamira youths have been challenged to make use of Sh30 million which was allocated to the Ministry of Youth and Sports to uplift their living standards.
According to county Governor John Nyagarama who was speaking at Bonyamatuta on Saturday, many youths have failed to meet requirements for eligibility to receive the funds.
He challenged the younger generation to form youth group and clubs for easy funding from the county government.
“As government, we set aside Sh30 million in the Ministry of Youth and Sports but I am told very few youths are making use of the funds. The requirements are very friendly and I wonder why it takes long for us to seize such opportunities. It’s important that you form youth groups for easy funding,” he said.
Nyagarama said the money was not limited to supporting sporting activities and insisted that youths with concrete business and entrepreneurial proposals were eligible to apply for the funds.
“On sports and talent nurturing, we are doing well because we have a number of sports teams across the county which are benefiting. However, it’s sad that no youth has ever come up with concrete business or entrepreneurship proposal and this really worries me. It's time that our youths wake up and seize such opportunities,” he added.
He warned youths against engaging in crimes and challenged them to be careful when working for self-centered politicians.
“I hear many of the youths complaining yet they are the ones to blame. My agenda for youths is clear and those who have been working with us know that. We don’t want youths engaging in crimes or working with self-centered politicians,” he said.
