A 21-year old young man was on Friday slapped with a 14-month prison sentence, after he was found guilty of theft charges when he appeared before a Kisumu law Court.

Leonard Oluoch from Chulaimbo in Kisumu County was initially charged with two counts of unlawful entry and theft, but these were reduced to one after the complainants withdrew the charges.

Oluoch had earlier pleaded guilty to the charges when he appeared before Kisumu chief magistrate Esther Maina.

In passing the sentence, Maina said that the accused was guilty of the charges from the evidence presented before her.

According to the prosecution, on February 7, 2015, Oluoch went to Kennedy Odhiambo’s residence in Chulaimbo estate and opened the window to gain entry into the house before stealing a car battery and a 50 kg bag of maize.

Odhiambo woke up the next morning to discover the theft and tracked the footprints to Oluochs place, where he positively identified the car battery and his maize through the bags.

Odhiambo notified the area assistant chief who managed to come in company of police from Maseno, arresting Oluoch and took him to custody where he recorded a statement admitting that he was responsible for the theft of the maize and the car battery.
