21 bars have been closed in Yatta and Masinga sub counties by the Machakos County Liquor Licensing Board for selling illicit liquor.
The board, led by its chairman Masinga sub county Commissioner Benjamin Gachichio, revoked the licenses of the bars, among them 16 which were closed due to insecurity reasons and being near learning institutions, while 5 were closed for selling illicit liquor.
The board has given them two months to appeal against the shutdown.
However, the board approved licenses for 55 bars in Magumoi, 25 in Uika, 46 in Muthatu, 64 in Mwimbi and 61 in Kierani areas.
The DCC also issued a stern warning to all bar owner to cease form selling the illicit alcohol or see their licenses revoked.
Mr Gachichio said that he was going to ensure that his administration fought the consumption of the illicit alcohol by making sure that every one caught selling it pays dearly.
Efforts by some leaders to have the ‘Dume Feed’ that is used as a key ingredient to make illicit brew banned by the board earlier bore no fruits since they had no legal mandate to do so.
The board issued a statement on the same on Monday.
