University students and adolescents in Nyamira have been advised to abstain from sex to reduce the rising HIV/Aids infections in the county.

Addressing Kisii University students, Nyamira campus on Monday morning during their orientation, Nyamira Hospital Medical Officer Charle Obaigwa said there are a widespread of HIV/Aids cases among students which has led to reduced manpower in the last two years.

He cautioned the students against engaging in pervert sexual behaviors such as prostitution, lesbianism and gayism which he said were on the increase in the area.

The medical officer regretted that although the students were fully aware of the repercussions of unprotected sex, some of them do not take precautions.

He said most of them had multiple sexual partners because of the illicit lifestyle they wanted to be associated with.

The officer said some students have dropped out of school after getting infected with the virus and hence lose hope in life.

Their dreams are shuttered once they quit school and this was an indication of the reduced manpower in society.

He further observed that girls were the most affected as they are easily lured by sugar daddies who in most cases are infected or don’t know their HIV status.

After getting the money from the sugar daddies, he said, they also engage in relationships with young men in campus who end up being infected in their efforts to get future partners.
