Nakuru county Deputy Governor Joseph Ruto has asked alcohol addicts to register with the government so that they are rehabilitated.
Speaking during the official launch of the Link Therapeutic Centre in Njoro town on Tuesday, the deputy governor said that many addicts are hiding because they feel ashamed of their situation.
He said that there could be many alcohol addicts in the county willing to be rehabilitated especially this time when the fight against brews and illegal alcohol is ongoing.
Ruto said that the county government has partnered with stakeholders to rehabilitate alcohol addicts.
He said that alcohol has shattered the lives of many youths and that they need help to recover.
“We are asking alcohol addicts to come forward and get the much needed support on the road to recovery,” he said.
Ruto said that rehabilitation centres will be established across the county to help the addicts.
The deputy governor also asked the society not to judge or reject the addicts saying that they deserve another chance in life.
“We should not condemn the addicts but rather give them an opportunity to reform,” he said.
Ruto, who was accompanied by area MP Joseph Kiuna and County Public Health Director Samuel King’ori, said the government will monitor the recovery of alcohol addicts who are being admitted at various recovery centres in the county.
