Youth in Athi River Town have been warned against roaming aimlessly at night without reasonable cause.

Addressing journalists in his office on Monday, Athi River Deputy County Commissioner Kodeck Makori said he has banned movements past 8pm.

"Youth from Athi River and its environs should know that there will be no late hour movements in this sub-county as from this moment," said Makori.

Makori said his office had realised that so many people especially young boys and girls roamed the town aimlessly without proper reasons in the name of having fun.

He said he had instructed security officers and provincial administrators from the region to be alert and arrest those who defy the order.

The commissioner said the order was a strategy to boost the war against crime stating that it had been difficult to differentiate criminals from innocent residents in the past.

"This order is for the good of all residents of this sub-county as far as their security is concerned. It has been difficult to differentiate criminals and innocent residents, especially youth at night," said Makori.

Makori said he decided to make this order after realising that majority of the youth preferred to visit and hang around social places like bars, pubs and restaurants at late hours in the name of having fun.

He said the ban will ease the work of identifying criminals alongside reducing incidences of the residents being attacked by gangs.

The deputy commissioner said majority of the residents expose themselves to people with ill motives by walking at night in stead of having a good time with their families at the comfort of their homes.
