Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri on Monday presided over the disbursement of Sh4,730,000 from the Uwezo Fund to different women and youth groups in the constituency.

The government had allocated Sh17. 5 Million in the last financial year. The money was disbursed as follows:

In Phase one, Sh6,610,000 was disbursed to the groups with Kimaina getting Sh2.2 million, Lanet (1.48 million), Bahati (Sh1.4m), Dundori (Sh1 million) and Kabatini (Sh430,000).

In phase two, groups in Kimaina received Sh1,545,000, Lanet (1.47 million), Dundori (Sh1, 055,000), Bahati (Sh1,055,000) and Kabatini (Sh505,000).

In phase 3, groups in Bahati received shillings 1.5 million, Kimaina (Sh1,230,000), Kabatini (Sh970,000) and Lanet (Sh750,000).

In total there were 85 groups that have so far benefited from the funds this year, with 51 groups already repaying their loan and 34 others are yet to start repaying.

A group from Dundori called Happy Mothers has already repaid their Sh100,000 loan and ready to take another loan from the fund.

The repayment date for the loans disbursed in phase one was in May and phase two is in September.

Ngunjiri told the women and youth present that elected leaders who had not made significant strides in the fight against illicit alcohol should be rejected in the next general elections.

"Politicians should demonstrate leadership by fighting for women and youths interests," he said.

In the same event the legislator accused the Nakuru county government leadership of corruption and poor performance.
