Three bar operators are set to appear in court today (Tuesday) after they were apprehended operating the bars past the stipulated time.

Speaking from his office in Thika on Monday, Thika District Administration Police Commander (DAPC) Samuel Ombonya, said the three were caught in different locations in Thika over the weekend but were forced to spend over 48 hours in the police custody due to unavoidable issues.

Ombonya said the police further apprehended 13 alcohol consumers who will be arraigned in court together with the rest on Tuesday.

The officer asked bar owners and operators in Thika to follow the Mututho laws strictly to avoid collision with the police as they will not spare anyone who contradicts the law.

“We don’t enjoy arresting people but when you go contrary to the law, we have to raid and arrest everyone on the scene. Let’s avoid breaking the law and we will be in good terms as we maintain order and as you operate your businesses,” said Ombonya.

He lauded the residents of Thika saying that he has been receiving endless calls and messages informing him of the whereabouts of illicit brewers.

Ombaya said the information has helped his officers in raiding the dens which has in turn enabled them to curb crime in the area.

The officer called on the public to work with the police in safeguarding Thika and taming crime.
