Police in Kiambu County have raised alarm over an influx of land fraudsters who masquerade as agents to fleece unsuspecting clients.
Speaking on Thursday from his office, Kiambu police boss, Stephen Ng’etich, asked those who want to purchase land in Kiambu to counter check their details with the lands office in Kiambu before making any payment for the transaction.
He said the impostors were pinning posters at strategic places to hoodwink their potential targets that their deals were genuine.
Ng’etich issued the alert following complaints from members of the public that some unknown individuals printed posters advertising the sale of two plots owned by Umoja Welfare Association and Umoja Welfare Self-help Group without their consent.
He said the land in question was a subject matter in court and there was no way the owners could advertise for sale before the matter was settled.
The Chairman of Umoja Welfare Self Help Group George Kamau and the Treasury of the Umoja Welfare Association Stanley Kivutha said they were shocked to find posters pinned on notice boards and on walls in Kiambu town advertising for the sale of their land.
The two officials said that when they discovered the advertisement, they reported the matter to the police.
They said there was a dispute in the two plots and the matter was in court.
The police boss said investigations have been launched to establish the identity of the fraudsters.
