Nakuru County Commissioner Mohammed Birik has assured Muslims in the county of their security as they mark Ramadhan.
Briefing the press at his Nakuru office on Friday, Birik said mechanisms are in place to guarantee safety of Muslim faithful.
The commissioner said that adequate security personnel have been deployed to all mosques in the county. He said that police will be conducting 24-hour patrols to deal with any crime elements that may be planning to use Ramadhan to cause mayhem.
“The county security committee has put in place enough measures to ensure that Muslims and all Kenyans are safe this Ramadhan month,” he said.
Birik urged Muslim faithful to work with the police during this period and report cases of suspicion. He said that they are prepared to deal with any issue that may arise.
He also asked the Muslim faithful to pray for the county and the country at large.
On the same note, the commissioner said that the government will not tolerate individuals and groups who are keen to disrupt peace. He said that stern action will be taken against lawbreakers.
“The law will be taken against people who are keen and fond of disrupting peace,” he said.
Birik who was reacting to Tuesday's Salgaa chaos said that the government is carrying out a probe. He said that several suspects are in custody in relation to the torching of the Nakuru fire engine during the ugly chaos.
He said that no one is above the law and that suspects and criminals will face the full wrath of the law.
